Fall Classic Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning matchup where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51M spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous finale between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was over 16 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s best postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
